After the Lions made it 2-0, Wayland got back in it just four minutes later when
Arturo Valle-Sardaneta scored. It was the team-leading eighth goal for Valle-Sardaneta.
The Pioneers (6-4-2, 2-3-0) kept the pressure on the rest of the way, but couldn't get the equalizer.
Wayland remains on the road for its next two matches, starting with a 3 p.m. contest Thursday in Muskogee, Okla., against winless Bacone (0-21, 0-10). Things get tougher for the Pioneers after that as they head to Siloam Springs, Ark., to take on John Brown (7-5-1, 3-1) before returning home for the final two regular-season matches: Oklahoma City (2-8, 2-2) on Oct. 28 and Southwestern Christian (10-3, 4-0) on Oct. 31.
