Box Score FORT WORTH – The Wayland Baptist men's soccer team went up against the Texas Wesleyan Rams here Saturday with the mindset to earn their first win in their second Sooner Athletic Conference match of the season. Despite being the aggressor and holding the Rams to only one goal, the Pioneers were unable to score one of their own as Wayland suffered a 1-0 loss at Martin Field.
The Pioneers (4-3-2, 0-2 SAC) took more shots (16-7) than the Rams (7-3, 1-1), but weren't able to connect on any. Both teams had three shots on goal.
Arturo Valle-Sardaneta led WBU with four shot attempts, followed by
Yago Xavier Taval Whittaker and
Christopher Lamorte, all with three each.
Although the Pioneers out-shot the Rams, it was the lone goal scored by Preston Baker at the 32-minute mark that gave Texas Wesleyan the win.
With conference play just beginning, there is still time for the Pioneers to reach toward one of their goals for this season: winning the SAC championship.
The next opportunity for the Pioneers to come off the losing skid will be at home at 5 p.m. Tuesday when Wayland hosts St. Gregory's.
