WBU Athletics collecting food for 'SAC Gives Back'

For the second year in a row, the Wayland Baptist Athletics Department is collecting donations for the local food bank as part of the Sooner Athletic Conference's "SAC Gives Back" initiative.

The first collection will take place during Thursday's volleyball match between the Pioneers and St. Gregory's University, which starts at 7 p.m. in Hutcherson Center. It's the final regular-season match of the season for Wayland, which will host St. Gregory's again at 11 a.m. Saturday in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.

The second collection will take place Nov. 16 during a Flying Queens-Pioneers basketball doubleheader at the Hutch. The Queens will host McMurry at 6 p.m., followed by the Pioneers taking on University of the Southwest at 8.

In lieu of admission for those events, fans are asked to donate non-perishable food items that will be given to Faith In Sharing House (FISH). Cash donations also will be accepted.

Last year, WBU Athletics brought in $1,994.05 and several boxes of food for its "SAC Gives Back" project.
