Box Score DENTON – Wayland Baptist had a tough time scoring and the No. 24 Flying Queens fell to streaking Texas Woman's University in a non-conference game here Tuesday night, 61-41.
Wayland (4-4) never led in the game, falling behind 8-2. The Flying Queens were within three, 14-11, before Texas Woman's ran off 10 unanswered points. The NCAA Division II Pioneers (8-2) led 38-20 at halftime.
Wayland trailed 46-34 going into the fourth quarter. WBU's
Shayla Monreal scored to get the Flying Queens within 10, but that's as close as they would get. The Pioneers went on a 13-3 run to seal their sixth straight win.
Stephanie Afunugo, coming off a career-high 26-point performance in Saturday's 73-54 win over Eastern New Mexico, again led Wayland with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
Shayla Monreal added 11 points.
Wayland shot 27 percent (17-of-62) from the field, including 16 percent (3-of-19) from 3-point range. The Queens were 4-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Texas Woman's only player in double figures was Erin Maxwell with 21. The Pioneers shot 45 percent (27-of-60) form the field, 0-of-12 from long range, and 7-of-12 (58 percent) free throws.
TWU led the rebounding battle, 42-40, and had one more turnover than WBU, 20-19.
The 41 points represented Wayland's lowest point total under third-year coach

The Queens next play at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Abilene in a doubleheader with the WBU men against McMurry. The Queens then play Angelo State at 5 p.m. Saturday in San Angelo.
