Box Score Â
For their second consecutive match, the Wayland Baptist men's soccer team came away tied after double-overtime, 2-2, and this one was especially heart-breaking. This time the opponent was Eastern New Mexico University as the Pioneers and Greyhounds faced off Friday in Hilliard Field.
Â
The Pioneers (2-1-2), who also battled St. Thomas to a 2-2 tie on Sunday, scored two goals in the first half, the first by
Mohammad Chahine at the 35-minute mark and the second by
Arturo Valle-Sardaneta at the 42-minute mark.
Â
After halftime, however, the momentum changed hands.
Â
The Greyhounds (2-0-1) answered twice in the second half, the last of those goals coming with just 25 seconds left in the contest.
Â
The Greyhounds (2-0-1) went on to score two goals, one in the 63
rd minute by Roberto Zatarain after WBU keeper
Palemon Plancarte lost control of the ball after tumbling to the ground.
Â
The Pioneers spent the next almost 27 minutes fending off ENMU, which got the painful equalizer by Ignacio Dicun after ENMU keeper James Gutierrez lifted the ball from midfield over the Pioneer defense. Dicun took control and was able to kick it in with just 25 ticks left.
Â
Neither team was able to scratch in the 20 minutes of extra time, and the match was called a draw.
Â
With a 2-1-2 record, Wayland has the rest of the weekend off to prepare for its next match-up against Texas-Permian Basin at 6 p.m. Monday back at Hilliard Field.
