Box Score In a hard-fought Sooner Athletic Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Hilliard field, Wayland Baptist put up a battle against Texas Wesleyan as the Pioneers sought to post their third straight win, but the Lady Rams hung on to win, 3-2.

Before Wayland could tie up the match, Taylor Ross connected on another shot for Texas Wesleyan to make it 3-1.

Zeltzin Gutierrez scored on a penalty kick for Wayland for her first goal of the season.

The Pioneers had a handful of scoring opportunities late in the match, but couldn't come up with the equalizer.

Shiloh Posey was pleased with how his team played, saying that their effort just got better as the match continued. Posey was satisfied with the team's approach and the way they played together.

"It's a positive direction," he said.

Posey pointed out how physical Texas Wesleyan plays.
Â
"The girls used good ball movement to offset the physicality of the game," he noted.

Wayland was at a size disadvantage in this match but held its own.
Â
"Consistency is a recurring issue that we need to work on and we need to use the opportunities that we are presented more efficiently, but I was proud that they got out there and didn't get down on themselves and kept playing," Posey said.

After a three-match home stand, the Pioneers hit the road for their third SAC contest to be held in Shawnee, Okla., against St. Gregory's University at 1 p.m. Tuesday. SGU (5-4, 3-1) won its match Saturday over Southwestern Christian, 3-1.
The team returns home to face off against University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 2 p.m. Saturday.
