Box Score Despite what the scoreboard read at the end of the match, the Wayland Baptist women's soccer team played one of its best games of the season Saturday afternoon at Hilliard Field.
Â
That was according to Wayland coach
Shiloh Posey, whose Pioneers dropped a 5-0 decision in Sooner Athletic Conference play to No. 19 John Brown.
Â
"In all honesty, the girls played a great game today," Posey said. "They possessed the ball, and the movement as a whole group was really solid and very consistent. We created some good opportunities, we just didn't capitalize on them."
Â
JBU (13-1-1, 7-0-0), which is undefeated in conference play, got a goal less than nine minutes into the match to achieve the lead over the Pioneers (4-8-2, 3-4-0). Another goal was scored late in the first, and JBU's last three goals were sprinkled throughout the second half.
Â
JBU outshot the Pioneers by a total count of 15-4. Only one of Wayland's shots was on-goal, and that chance was taken by
Chelsea Beaubouef.
Â
Wayland goalkeeper
Bailey Stengler recorded three saves.
Â
"I can't say anything negative about (Saturday). For me, that's the way I want them to play, and good things will happen if we continue to play like this," Posey said.
Â
The coach hopes to build on Saturday's match to produce a more positive outcome in the remaining two regular-season matches, and then the conference tournament.
The Pioneers will be in Bethany, Okla., to take on Southwestern Christian (4-11-0, 2-5-0) at 1 p.m. Tuesday before heading to Oklahoma City next Saturday to close the regular-season against Oklahoma City University (5-9-0, 3-3-0).
Wayland is tied for sixth in the conference standings with Mid-America Christian, just a half-game behind OCU. The top eight teams advance to the SAC Tournament, with the top four seeds hosting first-round matches.
