Box Score
CANYON – In the second all-time match-up between the two programs, the Wayland Baptist men's soccer team was shut out by West Texas A&M here Thursday evening, 4-0.
In a match mostly dominated by the Buffs (1-0), the Pioneers (1-2) couldn't get on track to reach the board.
Early in the contest, it was a struggle for both teams to gain ground and get on the board. Unfortunately for the Pioneers, the Buffs scored first in the 22nd-minute when Ivan Ulloa came open in the box.
After halftime, the match didn't get any better for WBU.
The Buffs' Rafael Vasconcellos and Cameron Walker scored in back-to-back minutes, the 51st and 52nd, before Ulloa put the icing on the cake with his second goal in the 63rd minute.
WTA&M took twice as many shots as WBU, 14-7, and even though the Pioneers did get five of their shots on goal (
Taval Whittaker,
Matthew Lowndes,
D'Angelo Garcia,
Guillermo Deal and
Jonathan Luna), they weren't able to capitalize.
The Pioneers will go back on the road Sept. 7 to face Texas Permian-Basin in Odessa. Last season, Wayland defeated the Falcons at home, 1-0.
