Ramos repeats as Defender of Week

For the second straight week and third time this season, Wayland Baptist's Rossanna Ramos has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Defender of the Week.

This week's recognition comes after Ramos, a 5-foot-7 senior libero from Catano, Puerto Rico, helped the Pioneers (11-7, 4-0 SAC) to conference road wins over St. Gregory's (25-21, 25-16, 25-19) and Mid-America Christian (25-20, 25-15, 25-15). They marked Wayland's fourth and fifth consecutive wins, the last four by 3-0 sweeps.

In the six sets, Ramos totaled 42 digs, including a season-high 31 against St. Greg's. She also totaled 51 pass attempts with just one reception error, five assists, and served 12 times with no errors.

Ramos, who ranks 12^th in the NAIA in total digs (316), also was named SAC Defender of the Week last week and after the first week of the season. She's earned the honor three of the five times it's been awarded this season.

Attacker of the Week is freshman outside hitter Marijana Bjelobrk of Oklahoma City of Belgrade, Serbia, who led the Stars to a 2-0 weeks with victories over Bacone and John Brown. She averaged 3.43 kills per set and carried an attack percentage of .500 with 24 kills against only three errors on 42 attacks.

Setter of the Week is Southwestern Assemblies of God University freshman Sophia Ivy of Round Rock, Texas. Ivy averaged 11.0 assists over 13 sets in victories over Huston-Tillotson, Southwestern Christian and USAO. Her best statistical effort was in a 3-2 win over USAO with 60 assists.

After five straight matches on the road, Wayland plays its first home match since Sept. 6 when it hosts Science and Arts of Oklahoma (0-6, 0-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Hutcherson Center. That contest begins a four-match home stand for the Pioneers, who also this week host Southwestern Christian (11-3, 2-2) at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Pioneers are tied atop the league standings with No. 18 Oklahoma City (13-3, 4-0).
