After a rough stretch of outings to open the season, Wayland Baptist's women's soccer team proved what it is truly capable of Saturday evening against Paul Quinn College.
In their final match before conference starts, Wayland logged one more goal than it had the entire season, downing the Tigers at Hilliard Field, 4-0.
"Obviously a win is really good for us. It kind of puts us on the front foot a little bit," WBU coach Shiloh Posey said.

For Saturday's match against a young Paul Quinn team (0-6-0), Posey said that he thought the Pioneers (1-4-2) stood a good chance to win, but he also knew that they would have to play well.
Pose credited Paul Quinn, mentioning how the Tigers had just enough players to play the match. WBU was able to take advantage of that when the Tigers started wearing out a bit, but they worked really hard and had "no quit in them."
Unfortunately with about 4½ minutes left in the match, Paul Quinn goalkeeper Te'ana Washington was injured and the contest was called due to that injury as the Tigers had no substitutes.
Wayland completely outshot Paul Quinn, 27-2. Seven of the Pioneers' 27 shots were on goal.
Of WBU's four goals, two were made in the first half and two came in the second half.
In the first, Gabrielle Munoz made a shot from 15 feet out, then Valeria Garcia connected with an assist by Andrea Munoz.
In the second half, Chelsea Beaubouef and Guadalupe Leyva got in on the fun, both assisted by KayLynn Mireles.
It was first score of the season for all four Pioneers.
Posey said that through the struggles of the beginning of this season for his team, "It has just been a balancing act, trying to keep everyone motivated and yet trying to get things to move ahead."
Now, he hopes to build on Saturday's win as the Pioneers look to upcoming conference action.
Wayland takes on Southwestern Assemblies of God University (6-3) in its first conference match at Hilliard Field at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

"We have our first conference match against Southwest Assemblies of God here on Tuesday, and a win is really good for us," Posey said. "If we can continue to capitalize on what we've done tonight and learn from the things we didn't do as well, I think it's going to put us in a decent place to start from."
