Box Score
As quickly as the offense showed up for the Wayland Baptist women's soccer team, it was gone again.
Three days after the Pioneers scored a season-high four goals in a win over Bacone College, Wayland could hardly sniff the goal Tuesday at Hilliard Field and fell to Oklahoma City University, 4-0.
The Pioneers had no answers for Sara Ricks and Natalie Eley, who scored two goals apiece for the Stars. Ricks struck first just over eight minutes into the action. Eley made it 2-0 in the 19
th minute then Eley scored again with just 13 seconds left before halftime on a short corner from Madelein Sjoholm and a cross from the right by Brianna Demuth. That same combination struck again just 1:18 into the second half to end the scoring.
Wayland got off just four shots, by
Valeria Garcia,
Zeltzin Gutierrez,
Madysen Zamora and
Chelsea Beaubouef, who recorded a hat trick last Saturday. Beaubouef had the only shot on-goal.
Of OCU's 20 shots, 11 were on-target as WBU keeper
Erin Moon logged seven saves.
Wayland (3-8, 2-3 SAC) slipped a half-game behind the sixth-place Stars (6-4, 2-2) in the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.
The Pioneers will have their hands full in their next match at 4 p.m. Saturday in Chickasha, Okla., where Wayland takes on No. 22 Science and Arts of Oklahoma (10-2-1, 4-0). The Drovers have won five in a row, which includes four shutouts and a combined score of 30-2. USAO's losses have come to NCAA Division II Oklahoma Baptist (2-1 in double-overtime) and No. 11 Ottawa (1-0).
