Box Score
FORT WORTH – In Wayland Baptist's next-to-last Sooner Athletic Conference match of the season against Texas Wesleyan on Saturday, the Pioneers couldn't keep up, falling to the Rams in women's soccer, 6-1.
"The score wasn't indicative of the effort level," coach
Shiloh Posey said. "The heart our team showed could never be questioned."
Third-place Texas Wesleyan (12-3, 6-2) scored its first goal 7:19 into the match, and went up 2-0 less than four minutes later. The Lady Rams scored twice in the 44
th minute to lead 4-0 at intermission.
Like in their last match, the Pioneers (4-11, 3-6 SAC) found themselves down a man for the entire second half due to a player going down with a concussion, but they continued to fight, which made Posey very proud.
Junior
Audrey Sierra-Bogan got Wayland on the board with her first goal of the season 10½ minutes into the second half.
Chelsea Beaubouef assisted on the goal from just in front of the box.
Samantha Moore scored twice more for the Lady Rams.
WBU was outshot, 29-6. Of Wayland's shots, four were on-goal. The goal attempts were taken by freshman
Madysen Zamora and Sierra-Bogan, both with one apiece, and Beaubouef, who took two.
Pioneer goalkeeper
Erin Moon racked up eight saves in the match.
The Pioneers will have their last conference game before the SAC Tournament at 1 p.m. Monday in Waxahachie against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (10-7, 6-3). The conference tournament begins Nov. 3, with the Pioneers going on the road, possibly against the loser between No. 19 John Brown (15-2, 9-0) and No. 23 Science & Arts of Oklahoma (14-2-1, 9-0), who play for the regular-season title Tuesday in Chickasha. WBU's other first-round opponent could be Texas Wesleyan or SAGU.
"We've got a good match on Monday and a win would give us a good chance to move up in the standings," Posey said. "We're going to give it our best effort and look to gain a positive result."
