Westfield again named SAC Player of Week

In the midst of an incredible scoring stretch, Wayland Baptist's James Westfield has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

Westfield scored in his fifth straight match with two goals in 23rd-ranked Wayland's 5-0 victory over Central Christian College in the conference tournament quarterfinals. It was his third multi-goal match of the season.

Earlier in the week, Westfield scored a goal in the Pioneers' 3-2 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University that clinched the program's second straight SAC regular-season championship.

It's the second time in three weeks Westfield, a sophomore forward from Liverpool, England, has earned the recognition. He has scored seven goals in his last seven matches and leads the Pioneers in goals scored with 11.

The conference's defensive player of the week, for the second straight week, is Jakob O'Meara-Gill, a sophomore goalkeeper from MACU. The Australian made two critical penalty kick shootout saves as the Evangels won their first-ever SAC Tournament game against USAO.

Westfield and the Pioneers (15-2-1) host fifth-seeded Mid-America Christian (12-4-2) at 5 p.m. today in the SAC Tournament semifinals.
