Men's Bracket

The Flying Queens are seeded third and will host Southwestern Assemblies of God while the Pioneers also are seeded third and will entertain Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Tuesday in Hutcherson Center in the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament. The Flying Queens will tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the Pioneers at 8.

Seedings and pairings for the men's and women's tournaments were announced today following the conclusion of a postponed game between Texas Wesleyan and Oklahoma City. The top eight women's teams and top eight men's teams qualified for the single-elimination tournament.

Higher-seeded teams host first-round games with winners advancing to John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark., where the semifinals and finals will be held Friday and Saturday.

Winners of the SAC tournament will earn an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournaments in mid-March – in Billings, Mont., for the women and in Kansas City, Mo., for the men. The USAO women Texas Wesleyan men already have secured spots at nationals after earning the top conference seed based on regular-season results.

The Flying Queens (23-5, 16-4) swept sixth-seeded SAGU in the regular-season, winning in Plainview on Dec. 2, 66-47, then in Waxahachie on Feb. 1, 91-64. The Flying Queens are 11-0 against SAGU in the all-time series.

The WBU-SAGU winner will take on either second-seeded, seventh-ranked Oklahoma City (25-5, 17-3) or seventh-seeded Bacone (16-13, 8-12) in the semifinals. The women's title game is at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Flying Queens already have secured at least an at-large bid into the national tournament. It will be the fifth straight season Coach Alesha Ellis' team has advanced to nationals.

The Pioneers (21-8, 13-7), ranked the equivalent of 29th in the NAIA, swept 16th-ranked USAO (21-9, 11-9) in the regular-season, winning Jan. 11 at home in a 96-74 blowout then in Chickasha on Feb 17, 91-81 in overtime.

It's the second straight season Wayland and USAO have met in the first round of the conference tournament. Last season, the Drovers pulled out a nail-biter in Chickasha, 100-99 in overtime.

In their last four meetings, the teams have played to overtime twice and double-OT once.

The WBU-USAO winner will meet the winner between second-seeded, 12th-ranked Oklahoma City (22-7, 14-6) and seventh-seeded Mid-America Christian (18-11, 11-9) in the semifinals. The men's championship game is at 4 p.m. Saturday.
