WBU soccer sweeps SAC offensive player of week awards with Westfield, Moore

Wayland Baptist swept Sooner Athletic Conference offensive player of the week honors as Taylor Moore and James Westfield were selected for the women's and men's awards.

Moore, a 5-foot-8 senior forward from San Angelo, scored three goals in Wayland's pair of wins last week, 5-3 over Southwestern Assemblies of God University and 3-2 over Central Christian, Kan. On the road against SAGU, Moore scored both of her goals in the second half as Wayland rallied from a 3-1 halftime deficit.

Moore, who is tied for third in the SAC with 10 goals (she scored a program-record five goals in a 10-0 win over Oklahoma-Panhandle St. earlier this season), has helped WBU put together its best start in program history with a 6-1-2 record, including 3-0-1 in the conference.

Moore is the first SAC Offensive Player of the Week for Wayland women's soccer since Jodian Morris in 2015. Victoria Bonahoom was honored as SAC Defensive Player of the Week earlier this season.

Westfield, a 5-foot-9 senior midfielder from Southport, Liverpool, England, earned this third SAC Offensive Player of the Week award. He previously was honored twice in 2017 when Wayland won the NAIA national title.

Last week, Westfield led the Pioneers to a pair of league victories over SAGU, 2-1 on the road, and 3-0 over Central Christian. As he got off a career-high nine shots, all but two of which were on-goal, Westfield scored both of WBU's goals against SAGU, including the game-winner in overtime. It was his eighth career multi-goal match, three of which have come in his last six outings. Westfield scored another goal against Central Christian to give him six points for the week.

A two-time first-team all-conference honoree, Westfield now has 12 goals on the season, ranking third in the SAC. He has scored in all but two matches of Wayland's 10 matches this year and continues to add to his program-best career goals total that currently stands at 32.

Both WBU women's and men's teams next play John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark., at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday.
