Brayln Kirby have been named Apex Collision Center Student-Athletes of the Week.
Kozak, a 6-foot junior middle hitter from Ituna, Saskatchewan, Canada, put up her best two hitting matches of the season in a 3-0 win over Central Christian (Kan.) and a 3-2 victory over Langston (Okla.), which followed a 3-0 road loss to Mid-America Christian (Okla.).
A day after coming within one of her career-high for kills with 17 against Central Christian, Kozak topped it with 19 smashes against Langston. She hit .424 against Central Christian, and .365 for the week. She also recorded a pair of aces against MACU and four block-assists vs. Langston, giving her seven for the week.
Kirby, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound senior wide receiver from Sherman, had a spectacular day in the football team's 24-14 road win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
Kirby caught five passes for a career-high 134 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown that helped the Pioneers build a 17-0 first-quarter lead. He averaged almost 27 yards per catch in his second 100-plus receiving game this season and came within 12 yards of the program record for receiving yards of 146 set by
Ben Owen in 2016.
Kirby, who leads the team in receptions (29, tied for 1st in the SAC), receiving yards (487, 4th in SAC) and receiving TDs (5), broke the team record with three TD catches in Wayland's season-opening win over the University of St. Mary (Kan.).
