Wayland Baptist's
Jordan Breding has been named Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball defender of the week, becoming the fourth Pioneers to be honored by the league this season.
A 5-foot-3 senior defensive specialist from Albuquerque, N.M., Breding was honored after two solid performances on the road against Southwestern Christian University (Okla.) and Oklahoma City University.
Against SCU, Breding recorded a season-high 31 digs to go with two aces, while against OCU she totaled 15 digs. She ended with a perfect serve reception percentage in both matches, making no errors in 35 total attempts.
Breding's 31 digs against SCU bettered her previous season-high of 24. She also had 31 last season, while her career-high is 39 digs in a five-set match her sophomore season.
It is Breding's third career SAC Defender of the Week honor. She also was honored twice during her sophomore season.
SAC attacker of the week is Cashlyn Munroe of Southwestern Christian, while setter of the week is Brenda Pargas of Texas Wesleyan.
Breding, an all-conference honorable mention honoree last season, is the fourth Pioneer to be recognized by the SAC this season, the first since Wayland swept the league honors the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1 when
Tatijana Markic was named attacker of the week,
Amber Daniel defender of the Week, and
Lucie Mahelova setter of the week.
The Pioneers (9-13, 4-6 SAC) next play in Chickasha, Okla., at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Science & Arts of Oklahoma (1-13, 1-9) to open the second half of SAC play. Wayland defeated the Drovers when they met in Plainview earlier this season, 25-7, 25-11, 25-6.
