DENTON – The Wayland Baptist Sapphires concluded their competition season on a high note here Saturday.
Competing at the American Dance & Drill Team Collegiate Nationals at the University of North Texas Coliseum, the WBU dance team placed first in the team category in the NAIA division.
In the overall NAIA competition, the Sapphires – performing the same routine they did at the NAIA Southwest Regional Qualifier in Oklahoma City a month earlier – came in second behind Texas Wesleyan, which performed a jazz and hip-hop routine.
"The girls performed very strong at the end," Wayland coach
Samantha Spieler said.
The Sapphires and the WBU cheer team will host clinics during Wayland's Big Weekend next Saturday, March 30. They'll host tryouts for next year's squads April 28.
