LANGSTON, Okla. – Twenty-five was wild for the Wayland Baptist volleyball team here Friday night as the Pioneers scored 25 points in all four sets in taking down Langston in Sooner Athletic Conference play, 25-22, 25-14, 25-27, 25-15.
"Langston came to play tonight. They have a competitive front row in both hitting and blocking that definitely kept them in the game," Wayland graduate assistant coach
Megan Sharratt said. "After dropping the third set we definitely came back out with a can't-lose attitude and gave ourselves a good lead."
Junior
Kellie Kozak turned in another solid performance.
"Kellie was in the game tonight with 10 kills and just one error allowing her to finish with a .500 hitting percentage. She also had seven blocks (two solo) and two aces," Sharratt said.
Tatijana Markic hit .250 with 19 kills while redshirt freshman
Renzelle Horner ended with 33 assists, 14 digs and five aces. Libero
Tevia Bell led the way with 19 digs, while
Amber Daniel collected a dozen.
Langston (2-8, 0-3 SAC) hit .094.
"We're getting better at playing as a team rather than six individuals," Sharratt said. "Hopefully we keep heading in the right direction."
Wayland (6-7, 2-1) now travels back to Kansas – where its match Thursday against Southwestern College was suspended in the fifth due to a slippery court surface – for a pair of Saturday contests. First is a SAC outing against Central Christian (2-5, 0-2), which hosted Oklahoma-Panhandle State on Friday night, beginning at 1 p.m., followed by a non-conference meeting with Sterling.(3-10).
