Kambrey Blakey have been name Apex Collision Center Student-Athletes of the Week.
Ceja, a sophomore from Winters, Calif., placed third at the York Open in Nebraska. After dropping her first match of the tournament to third-ranked Myranda Valazquez of Jamestown, Ceja, ranked 15
th, rallied for five straight wins. Ceja defeated 16
th-ranked Ashley Cook of Lyon by 8-0 decision and 12
th-ranked Andrea Prince of Jamestown by 9-0 decision.
After pinning Emilee Demann of St. Mary in just 50 seconds, Ceja earned a rematch against Valazquez and won by injury default. Finally, in the third-place match, Ceja pinned 18
th-ranked Audriana Beatie of York in 5:45.
Ceja and the rest of the sixth-ranked Pioneer women join the Wayland men in hosting Texas Wesleyan in a dual starting at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Laney Center.
Meanwhile, Blakey helped the No. 6 Flying Queens to a pair of Sooner Athletic Conference road wins over Langston, 79-50, and Central Christian, 92-67.
On Thursday against Langston, Blakey scored 14 points and had five rebounds. Then on Saturday against Central Christian, the 6-foot senior forward from Portales, N.M., scored 15 points, on 6-of-8 shooting from the field including a pair of 3-pointers, and hauled in seven rebounds. Blakey finished the week shooting 57 percent (12-of-21) from the field.
On the season, Blakey is averaging 8.9 points and 4.5 rebounds a game.
The Flying Queens open a five-game home stretch at 6 p.m. Tuesday when they host Oklahoma-Panhandle State.
