Gabriela Ramos-Diaz has been named Sooner Athletic Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week.
Competing at the York Open in York, Neb., Ramos-Diaz won all three of her matches to take first place in the 123-pound division.
A junior from Catano, Puerto Rico, Ramos-Diaz, who is ranked second in the NAIA in her weight class, opened with an 8-0 decision over 14
th-ranked Ashley Tobe of Cumberlands, Ky. She then recorded an 11-0 technical fall win over 13
th-ranked Ashley Whetzal of Lyon, Ark., before downing sixth-ranked Jasmine Hernandez of Lyon by 12-2 tech fall to claim the title.
The three victories improved Ramos-Diaz's season record to 11-3.
It's the second SAC Women's Wrestler of the Week honor for the Pioneers after
Desiree Zavala was honored seven days earlier.
Ramos-Diaz, Zavala and the rest of the Pioneers, ranked sixth in the NAIA, join with the WBU men in hosting Texas Wesleyan in a dual starting at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Laney Center.
