For the first time, Wayland Baptist wrestling swept Sooner Athletic Conference wrestler of the week honors with
Jasmine Davis honored on the women's side and
Gabe Gray on the men's.
Davis, a sophomore from Austin, won at 123 pounds against 19
th-ranked Alexis Saldivar when the sixth-ranked Pioneers hosted Texas Wesleyan in a dual Saturday at the Laney Center. Davis, ranked 17
th in the NAIA, scored a 10-0 technical fall victory and helped Wayland to the 26-13 win over the Lady Rams.
"I was real proud of Jasmine. She's really been working hard and spending time after practice on some things. (The) win should give her a lot more confidence moving forward," said coach
Aaron Meister.

It was Wayland's third straight conference wrestler of the week honor after
Desiree Zavala and
Gabriela Ramos-Diaz previously were recognized.
The inaugural SAC women's wrestling championships are set for Feb. 29 at Wayland.
Meanwhile, Gray, a freshman from Amarillo wrestling at 125 pounds, picked up a 10-2 major decision victory over Texas Wesleyan's Cortez Castellanos. Gray's win in the fourth match of the dual gave Wayland a 14-6 lead, although the Rams came back for a 27-20 team victory.
Gray, a graduate of Randall High School, improved his season record to 14-8.
It was the first SAC Wrestler of the Week honor for the WBU men since current graduate assistant coach
Riley Williams was recognized as a freshman during the 2017-18 campaign.
The SAC men's wrestling championships are set for Feb. 22 in Bartlesville, Okla.
