GOODWELL, Okla. – Seven Flying Queens scored in double-figures, and
Kelea Pool and
Jenna Cooper both had double-doubles as No. 5 Wayland Baptist rolled to a 100-57 Sooner Athletic Conference victory over Oklahoma-Panhandle State here Tuesday night.
Wayland (24-2, 15-1 SAC) led 44-24 at the half then outscored the Lady Aggies (5-21, 0-17) in the third quarter 28-8 to put the game completely away.
The Flying Queens, who defeated OPSU by 21 when they met in Plainview, scored another 28 points in the fourth to log their fourth straight triple-digit offensive output, and seventh in their last eight outings. The four straight games over the century mark and the Queens' eight this season both tie program records.
Morgan Bennett paced Wayland in scoring with 20 points, hitting 6-of-10 3-pointers to match her career-best first accomplished four games earlier.
Kambrey Blakey added 17 points while
Kaylee Edgemon and
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant tacked on 12 each.
Cailyn Breckel, in addition to a team-high seven assists, dropped in 11 points, as did both Pool and Cooper who also had 12 and 11 rebounds, respectively. The 12 boards were a career-high and helped make for the first double-double for the senior Pool. It was the eighth double-double of the season for Cooper, a sophomore.
OPSU was led by Laura Moya Demures' 15 points.
Wayland, which blocked nine shots, outrebounded the Lady Aggies, 61-30. The Flying Queens did not allow any second-chance points on just six OPSU offensive rebounds; Wayland had 20 second-chance points on 24 offensive boards.
It was the 20
th straight victory for Wayland and the eighth straight loss for OPSU.
The Flying Queens are back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday in Muskogee, Okla., for a non-conference game against Bacone (3-19). Wayland defeated Bacone on Jan. 25, 108-41.
The Flying Queens end the week in Siloam Springs, Ark., against John Brown, a team they previously defeated 89-59. WBU can then concentrate on their showdown against No. 1 Oklahoma City University on Feb. 27 in Plainview.
