The NAIA recently announced plans to proceed with winter championship dates and locations as scheduled. For Wayland Baptist, this means championship dates and locations for men's and women's basketball and men's and women's wrestling will remain as scheduled, for now.

"As with anything COVID-related, we cannot predict with certainty what the situation will be in the coming months. Based upon the information we have now, we intend to proceed with our winter championship dates and locations as scheduled," NAIA President & CEO Jim Carr said. "While some members have expressed interest in delaying winter championships, moving these events to spring will cause additional resource and logistical challenges for members, conferences, and the national office."

The NAIA previously moved championship dates for fall sports – cross country, football, soccer and volleyball – to the spring.

"It should be noted that the (NAIA) national office is working with the winter host sites regarding contingency plans, but these efforts do not indicate an intent to move the championships. We are simply being proactive in our approach if the COVID landscape changes and we have no other choice," Carr said.

While the NAIA and Sooner Athletic Conference are not restricting practice or competition during the holiday break in an effort to allow institutions to manage the season in a way that works best for them, Wayland Baptist -- based on accommodations made related to COVID-19 – the university is dictating no games or practice from Nov. 25 through Dec. 28.

The last day of fall classes at Wayland is Nov. 20. Final exams will be administered online from Nov. 30-Dec.7.

The Sooner Athletic Conference has developed an abbreviated basketball schedule for member schools that have opted to play this fall. Wayland will play a four-game schedule from Nov. 5-21. Those games will not count toward official conference standings. WBU has a 14-game SAC spring schedule planned.

Wayland had a fifth fall game scheduled against Southwestern Christian, but that contest was cancelled due to SCU officials not allowing overnight trips for student-athletes because of COVID concerns. As a result, WBU has only one home game against a conference opponent scheduled this fall.

Wayland hopes to schedule additional basketball competitions against non-conference opponents this fall.

WBU's wrestling schedule has not yet been finalized.
