(This match was later forfeited by WBU).
McPHERSON, Kan. – Wayland Baptist recorded its most lopsided victory of the season, overpowering Central Christian College in a matchup of teams with reduced rosters here Saturday afternoon, 25-11, 25-9, 25-8.
"Central Christian was missing more players than we were. They had four players out (WBU was missing two for academic commitments). We took advantage of their new lineup with our new lineup," Wayland coach
Jim Giacomazzi said.
The Sooner Athletic Conference-leading Pioneers (17-5, 10-2 SAC), ranked the equivalent of 29
th in the NAIA, had no issues dispatching the last-place Lady Tigers (1-20, 1-11). Wayland recorded a similar lopsided win in the SAC opener in Plainview on Sept. 3, 25-13, 25-12, 25-11.
"Lucie (Mahelova) played one set (at setter) and had another solid performance (14 assists). In sets two and three. Elizabeth (Wirth) and Cauane (Krainski) had opportunities to get some court time. Both did well. Elizabeth was able to dish out more assists (14-9) mostly because she had two of our top hitters, Paxton and Amber, at her disposal. Tatijana (Markic) had a good afternoon hitting."
Daniel ended with 18 kills and hit .452 while Markic added 14 kills and hit .550.
Wendy Cobbah did not commit an error in 15 swings, getting seven kills and hitting .467. Patterson also had seven kills and just one error and hit .353. As a team the Pioneers swung at a season-high .467 clip compared to .000 for the Lady Tigers.
Ariel Marquez and Daniel registered nine digs each while
Jayda Nelson had eight.
Wayland continues its seven-match road swing with contests next weekend at Science & Arts of Oklahoma (8-13, 1-11) on Friday night and Mid-America Christian (18-6, 9-3) Saturday afternoon.
