Wintry weather – including snow, extreme cold and dangerous travel conditions – continues to play havoc on the Wayland Baptist sports schedule.
With four soccer matches already cancelled, Thursday's home basketball doubleheader against University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) has been called off. Saturday afternoon's regular-season finales for the No. 2 Flying Queens and Pioneers against Mid-America Christian still are on as of today, although those games also are in jeopardy.
The Pioneer baseball team's three-game series against Sterling, Kan., on Friday and Saturday at Wilder Field has been cancelled, although officials are trying to find a replacement opponent.
Friday's outdoor track meet at South Plains College in Levelland has been postponed until Sunday.
Even the eSports schedule has been affected by weather. Monday's Fortnight Battle Royale match was cancelled, and Tuesday's Counter-Strike match against the Mavericks was postponed until Thursday.
Saturday's football game at Oklahoma-Panhandle State in Goodwell, Okla., is still on. Kickoff is at noon. It's the Pioneers' first gridiron game in 3½ months after the season was halted last fall due to COVID-19.
