No. 3 WBU leads five top-15 teams at SAC Women's Wrestling Championships

Third-ranked Wayland Baptist heads up five top-15 teams that will battle it out Sunday for the second Sooner Athletic Conference women's wrestling title.

The SAC Women's Wrestling Championships will be held at Oklahoma City University's Abe Lemons Arena beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday. Competition will take place on two mats. No spectators will be allowed. The format is round robin with no championship finals. 

Live results on Track Wrestling will be provided as will live streaming on both mats. Cost per broadcast is $4.99.
 
Besides No. 3 Wayland, other participating teams will be 10^th-ranked host OCU, No. 11 Lyon, No. 13 Missouri Baptist, and No. 15 Texas Wesleyan. Lyon is the defending champion, having won the first SAC Women's Wrestling Championships hosted by WBU last year.

Wayland's Nina Pham and Desiree Zavala are among two of six individuals back to defend their titles. Pham is ranked No. 1 in the NAIA at 101 pounds but will wrestle at 109. Zavala is No. 1 at 136, with teammate Jordan Suarez right behind her at No. 2.

WBU's other ranked wrestlers are: Asia Ray, No. 5 at 109; Mia Arceneaux, No. 12 at 109; Rebekah Cordova, No. 3 at 123; Jasmine Davis, No. 15 at 123; De'Anna Prince, No. 7 at 130; Sadie Forman, No. 7 at 143; Olivia Ricci, No. 10 at 170; and Katerina Pena, No. 16 at 191.

The tournament field includes 34 ranked wrestlers with Wayland bringing a league-high 11 ranked individuals. 

The top four finishers in each weight will earn all-conference honors, with champions deemed first-team, runners-up second team and third- and fourth-place finishers deemed honorable mention all-conference.

SAC wrestler of the year, outstanding wrestler, freshman of the year, newcomer of the year, coach of the year and most falls will be recognized.
