Wayland Baptist made its home debut and kicked off Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball play in fine fashion Friday evening, sweeping Central Christian College (Kan.), 25-13, 25-12, 25-11.
Â
"We hit on all cylinders," Wayland coach
Jim Giacomazzi said. "I was pleased with the performance of basically everyone. Everybody got playing time that we wanted to get in the game, and the lead didn't diminish when we changed the line-up. People wanted to show what they had."
Â
Three Pioneers (6-2, 1-0 SAC) ended with double-digit kills, led by Taijana Markic with 13.
Amber Daniel added 11 and
Paxton Patterson 10. That trio and
Alexa Hinojos, who had eight kills, all turned in impressive hitting percentages, paced by Markic at .550 and Daniel at .526. Hinojos finished at .462 and Patterson at .353. Wayland hit .382 as a team.
Â
Daniel also produced 11 digs and three block-assists while Markic recorded four of WBU's 10 aces.
Lucie Mahelova finished with 35 of WBU's 47 assists before going to the bench with other Pioneer regulars.
Â
"It was good to be at home finally and have a nice match here," Giacomazzi said.
Â
