Women's soccer drops home debut

University of the Southwest scored four quick second-half goals and posted a 4-1 victory over Wayland Baptist in women's soccer action Friday afternoon at Hilliard Field.

In the home-opener for the Pioneers (0-2), the teams battled to a scoreless first-half tie before the offense for the Lady Mustangs (1-2-1) suddenly came to life after intermission with four goals all within 10 minutes of each other. Priscilla Garcia accounted for two of the goals, while Jennifer Schroeder and Sierra Saenz got one each.

Wayland's lone goal came soon after USW's fourth with Miranda Rocha finding the back of the net.

USW ended with 18 shots, including 11 on-goal, compared to Wayland's six shots, two of which were on-target. Natalie Terry and Bianca Roman had two shots apiece for the Pioneers.

The Lady Mustangs are coached by former WBU Pioneer D'Angelo Garcia.

Wayland will look for its first win when the Pioneers host Bacone (Okla.) at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
