Bianca Roman set a program record for shots and Wayland Baptist broke into the win column with a 9-0 victory over Bacone College (Okla.) on Tuesday afternoon at Hilliard Field.
Â
Bacone (0-4) arrived in Plainview with just eight players, so by mutual agreement by both teams that match was halted shortly after it became official, according to NAIA rules, in the 70
th minute.
Â
The Pioneers (1-2), who led 6-0 at halftime, got goals from six players, including two each by Roman and
Reagan Cordell.
Â
Roman ended the match with 13 shots, breaking the team record of 12 set in 2013 by Emarie Holland, who holds most of the WBU records.
Â
The Pioneers also broke the program mark for shots in a match with 51; the old record of 47 was set against Dallas Christian in 2012 and matched against Oklahoma-Panhandle State in 2019. Sixteen different players attempted shots.
Â
Bacone, which rarely had possession of the ball, did not get off a shot.
Â
Wayland came up short of the program record for goals in a match, 12, set against Dallas Christian in 2011.
Â
The Pioneers next hit the road to take on Houston-Victoria at 11 a.m. Saturday followed by Huston-Tillotson in Austin at 10 a.m. Monday.
