McPHERSON, Kan. – Wayland Baptist strung together back-to-back wins for the first time this season when the Pioneers followed a victory over Langston on Friday with another sweep of Central Christian (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon.
"We had a good afternoon. This is a hard trip and we were tired both physically and mentally. With that being said, the girls showed some determination. Several had to work harder than they have in the past to get their brain engaged. I was very happy to see the change," Wayland coach
Jim Giacomazzi said.
Alexa Hinojosa ended with a match-best 11 kills and hit .429, while
Fade Ogunbade got eight smashes and hit .250.
Chante Moore (.263) and
Chante Moore added five kills each.
"Alexa had a good night at the net, and Fade made some good adjustments, both mentally and physically. Both had better swings at the ball," Giacomazzi said.
Ogunbade provided half of WBU's 16 block-assists, while Moore had four.
The Pioneers (3-10, 3-5 SAC) finished with eight aces, half of those by
Dayana Critchii who also led the team with 21 digs, four off her season-best.
Samantha Ingram added 10 digs and 22 of WBU's 30 assists.
Wayland will try to make it three wins in a row when the Pioneers host Southwestern Christian (6-9, 1-6) at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by Oklahoma City (7-8, 5-2) at 5 p.m. Saturday.
