The 17
th-ranked John Brown Golden Eagles proved worthy of their ranking and standing atop the Sooner Athletic Conference, walloping Wayland Baptist on Friday afternoon at Hilliard Field, 3-0.
It took JBU (6-3, 2-0 SAC) just 10½ minutes to score its first goal, by Pam Seiler. Eight minutes later, Seiler scored her seventh goal of the season to make it 2-0.
Lauren Walter notched her eighth goal of the year to finalize the scoring in the 66
th minute.
Wayland (1-4-1, 0-2-1) was outshot 24-7, with Pioneer keeper Kanada Morita logging nine saves vs. three for JBU's Chloe Griffin.
Bruna Moureira and Toby McCoy recorded three shots each for the Pioneers. Moureira, McCoy and
Ajacia Mojica all had shots on-goal.
The match saw an unfortunate leg injury to WBU freshman
Paige Inthavong in the 83
rd minute, which delayed play some 30 minutes as emergency personnel tended to Inthavong just off the pitch on the end line.
WBU will look for its first SAC victory Tuesday in Goodwell, Okla., against Oklahoma-Panhandle State (1-6, 0-1), which plays at Science & Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday. The Pioneers play their next three on the road, following Tuesday's match with contests at Oklahoma City University and Central Christian (Kan.) before returning home Oct. 18 against SAGU.
