Hernandez finishes second at York Open

YORK, Neb. – Alexandria Hernandez finished second at the York Open during a strong weekend for Wayland Baptist women's wrestlers in Nebraska.

Hernandez, a sophomore from Washington competing at 155 pounds, won all three of her matches by pin in Saturday's York Open, pitting her against former Pioneer Kaylynn Albrecht of Baker University in the championship match. Albrecht, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, prevailed by tech fall, 11-0.

That followed Friday's showing at the York Duals where Hernandez went 4-0, highlighted by two falls, as Wayland won three of its five duals. Ranked the equivalent of 28^th in the NAIA, Wayland lost to No. 9 Texas Wesleyan, 29-20, and to host York, ranked the equivalent of 35^th, 30-18, while defeating Jarvis Christian, ranked the equivalent of 30^th, 30-4, and Minot State (N.D.), 25-7. Wayland picked up a forfeit win against the University of St. Mary (Kan.), ranked the equivalent of 35^th.

Also on Saturday, freshman Addi Cronk of Colorado showed well in the freshman/sophomore 130-pound class. After being pinned in her first match then receiving a bye, Cronk recorded a pair of fall victories then won by injury default before being pinned.

Wayland (4-3) next is in action with the Pioneer men in duals against No. 15 Oklahoma City University at 5 p.m. Tuesday. Those duals will be held at Westmoore High School in Moore, Okla., due to facility issues at OCU.
