MOORE, Okla. – Wayland Baptist wrestling came up on the short end of duals against nationally-ranked Oklahoma City University on Tuesday afternoon at Westmoore High School.
The WBU women, ranked the equivalent of 28
th in the NAIA, fell to the 15
th-ranked Stars, 28-19, while the Pioneer men, ranked the equivalent of 31
st, came up short against No. 19 OCU, 38-12.
In the women's competition, Wayland won two matches –
Malarie Dominguez (10-0 tech fall), who is ranked 14
th at 101 pounds, at 109 and
Morgan Senior (6-3 decision) at 170 – while logging two forfeits – Addison Cronk at 130 and
Anai Santiago at 191. Meanwhile, OCU prevailed in six matches: four on the mat and two forfeits.
In a matchup of two ranked wrestlers, OCU's Avery Ashley, ranked sixth at 116, pinned Wayland's
Tess Barnett, ranked 14
th at 123.
On the men's side, the Pioneers prevailed when
Alex Pena, ranked 10
th, logged a 6-1 decision at 133 and
Jaykob Mills recorded a 5-0 shutout decision at 174, along with a forfeit for
Joseph Galvan at 125. The Stars came out on top in three matches and four forfeits.
The WBU women (5-4) next compete at the Colorado Mesa Duals in Grand Junction, Colo., on Sunday while the Pioneer men (4-8) wrestle Sunday the at Missouri Valley Open in Marshall, Mo.
