Fade Ogunbade paced the Wayland Baptist offense Thursday evening as the Pioneers took a 3-0 straight win over Clinton College to finish Pool Play undefeated in the NCCAA National Women's Volleyball Tournament at Point Lookout, Mo.
The Pioneers broke open the first set early as they went on a 6-2 run as Wayland took a 10-4 advantage, but Clinton rallied to cut the lead to two at 16-14. The Pioneers finished the set with a 9-4 run they claimed the first set 25-18.
It was all Wayland in the next two sets as they completed the sweep by winning the second set 25-6 and closing the match out with a 25-7 third-set victory to win their Pool and advance to the Tournament semifinals.
Wayland finished the match with an impressive .309 hitting percentage as they had 41 kills on 94 total attacks with 12 errors in the contest. Ogunbade finished with 10 kills while Alyssa Vasquez added 9 kills in the win.
Valentina Bozzato handed out 18 assists while
Selma Sutaj added 14 digs.
The Pioneers will take on Sooner Athletic Conference rival Mid-America Christian in the tournament semifinals Friday starting at 3 p.m. Wayland has lost all four meetings between the schools this year including a 3-0 defeat in the NCCAA Central Regional Championship.
