th ranked Wayland Baptist (6-3, 2-2 SAC) went down early 11-4, but were able to battle back and only trailed 30-29 at the halftime break. Leach finished with 8 points in the half, and
Meikkel Murray scored 6 of his 10 points in the first half.
Buckets by Brown and Bellfield gave the Pioneers a 43-37 lead with 15:30 remaining in the game, but the Golden Eagles continued to battle and keep things close. With only :23 remaining in the game, the Pioneers held a 69-64 lead, but were unable to secure the win due to a buzzer beating 3-pointer by the Golden Eagles.
The Pioneers dominated points in the paint, outscoring the Golden Eagles in that department 51 to 36, but had a tough time getting a 3-point shot to fall, only shooting 17.6%. Brown scored all 17 of his points in the 2
nd half, while also grabbing 4 rebounds. Leach finished 1 rebound short of a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Bellfield scored 13 points and grabbed 8 boards, and he also led the team in steals with 5.
Next up for the Pioneers is a road test against Oklahoma Panhandle State University (4-4, 2-2 SAC) Tuesday night. Tip is set for 8:00 PM.
