Wayland Women's Soccer Earns a Big Road Win in Kansas

McPherson, KS - The Wayland women's soccer team earned a hard fought 2-0 victory on the road as they defeated Central Christian College in McPherson, Kansas.
The Pioneers played extremely well as they snapped a losing streak.

Cecilia Lopez gave the Pioneer an early lead as she scored a goal in the 2nd minute of play with an assist by Ashley Perez.

Meagan Picon added a goal in the 68th minute for WBU to ice the victory.

The Pioneers played great defense and Ava Kent allowed no goals as Wayland evened up their Sooner Athletic Confernce record at 1-1.

WBU was the aggressor as they outshot Central Christian 12-9 in the game.

Head Coach Shiloh Posey had these comments about tonight's game " Nice to get a win....especially in SAC play.
Our ladies put together  a solid game, scoring early (2:13) off a header that came from a corner kick (Ashley Perez to Cecilia Lopez) into the near post.
The rest of the half was a battle back and forth.
In the second half, things started where they left off with both teams having some offensive threats and playing defense.
About half way through the second half, Mallory Perez went up to win a ball in the air in the CC box and was knocked down, resulting in a Penalty Kick.
Meagan Picon played it to the keeper's left into the net.
Ther rest of the half was evenly matched, but no more scoring occurred.
It's going to be a long trip home, but nic to bring a win!
We have Nelson at home on Saturday, and will work to add anothe win."

As Coach Posey pointed out, Wayland's next game is Saturday, October 5 at 11;00 against Nelson University.

The Pioneers return home to face Nelson University at 11:00 on Saturday, October 5.
