Plainview, TX – The Wayland Baptist Pioneers and Nelson Lions were both 1-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play as they came into play Saturday morning. The Lions were the aggressor in the first half and the majority of play took place on their offensive end of the field. Nelson had eight shots in the first half compared to none for the Pioneers. Despite the adversity, Wayland's defense held strong and only trailed 1-0 at halftime after a Nelson goal in the 21
st minute.
The Pioneers came out much more aggressively in the second half as they were able to get off six shots compared to eight by Nelson.
Ashley Perez tied the game 1-1 with a goal in the 65
th minute. Ashley's goal came on an assist from
Narriah Gomez.
Nelson scored two more goals in the 77
th and 81
st minutes to pull away with the 3-1 victory.
The Pioneers continue Sooner Athletic Conference play Tuesday, October 8 when they travel to Oklahoma City to face the Oklahoma City University Stars at 6:30 PM.
