Plainview, TX – The women's soccer team from Wayland Baptist hosted the 23
rd ranked Drovers from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Tuesday. The Pioneers gave USAO a tremendous battle in the first half as the game was tied 1-1 after 45 minutes of play.
WBU shocked the Drovers when
Elaina Barrientes scored a goal just 24 seconds into the game to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
Ashley Perez made a beautiful pass to Barrientes for an assist.
USAO scored in the 19
th minute to tie the game. But neither team could score again in the half.
The Drovers proved why they are ranked in the top 25 in the nation in the second half as they scored four goals on their way to a 5-1 win.
In addition to the goal by Barrientes,
Camila Zavala,
Ashley Perez and
Celeste Landin all contributed shots on goal for the Pioneers.
Wayland will face Oklahoma Panhandle State University Saturday, October 19
th at 1:00 PM in Goodwell, Oklahoma.
