Salina, KS – Wayland Baptist and the Bethel (KS) Threshers faced off on the opening day of the Kansas Wesleyan University Classic Friday.
The game was a tale of two halves as the Threshers took a 49-34 lead after the first twenty minutes of play. Bethel was hot from the field in the first half as they made 68% of their shots.
The Pioneers turned the tables on Bethel in the second half, outscoring the Threshers 43-35, shooting 52% from the field and 60% from the three point line. Wayland fought back from the 15 point halftime deficit to take a three point lead, 59-56, with 12:19 remaining in the game. Bethel eventually came out on top 84-77.
Quenton Coleman led the way offensively for the Pioneers scoring a game high 31 points. Coleman was 11 for 17 from the field overall and 8-10 from behind the three point line. Quenton also added 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
Dylan McDougal scored 15 points pulled down a team high 6 rebounds. Dylan was 5-8 from the field and 3-5 from three.
Niko Noumeros was the only other Pioneer in double figures, as he finished with 10 points, 3 rebounds and an assist.
James Lee scored 7 points and had 5 rebounds.
Julian Perez scored 4 points and added 2 rebounds and 2 assists.

Brett Leach each had 3 points and 3 rebounds and
Jaxon Recer and Adiola Seun each contributed 2 points and 2 rebounds.
The Pioneers next face #24 ranked Kansas Wesleyan Saturday at 8:00 PM.
