Bethany, Oklahoma – Wayland Baptist and Southwestern Christian met for the second time this season Thursday, but the winner of this meeting would be crowned NCCAA Central Regional Champions and advance to the National Tournament.
These two Sooner Athletic Conference rivals played October 30 in Bethany and the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Much like the regular season meeting, defense ruled the day in this Regional Final. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.
The second half featured tremendous defense as well. However, at the 72:14 mark,
Jamol Williams put the ball in the back of the net to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by
Vito Zatikyan.
A determined Pioneer defense, led by
Josue Gonzalez in goal, made sure that single goal was all that was needed to win the Regional Championship.
Jamol Williams once again led Wayland in shots on goal with 3.
Edwin Wiesner,
Francis Motsi and
Rashawn Davis also had shots on goal, testing the Eagle goal keeper.
The Pioneers will be playing in the NCCAA National Championship in Kissimmee, Florida. The tournament runs from December 2-7. At this time, other qualifiers have not been announced.
