Wayland Men's Soccer Fights to a 1-1 Draw With Judson at NCCAA National Tournament

Kissimmee, Florida – The Wayland Baptist men's soccer team opened pool play today in the NCCAA National Championship. The 7th seeded Pioneers played the #3 seed Judson University Eagles to a 1-1 draw. The draw gives each team 1 point.

The first half ended with a 0-0 score, as both teams played outstanding defense. Judson scored the first goal of the game in the 59th minute to take a 1-0 lead. In the 68th minute, Elliott Idehen scored a goal for the Pioneers, with an assist from Niklas Thiel, to tie the game at 1-all.

The statistics were indicative of just how close the game was. Wayland led the Eagles in shots 13-11, while Judson led in shots on goal, 6-5.

Elliott Idehen scored his goal on his only shot of the game. Jamol Williams had 2 shots on goal for the Pioneers. Jose Colina and Dario Catalan each contributed one shot on goal. Alex Neri was outstanding in goal for the Pioneers with 5 saves.

Wayland is set to face #4 seed Roberts Wesleyan University in their second match in pool play. The game will take place on Tuesday, December 3 at 3:30pm (EST).
