Three Queens Record Double-Doubles in Rout of OPSU

Plainview – Linda Brice, Megan Nestor, and Kaitlyn Jerden all recorded double-doubles to elevate the Pioneers to an overwhelming 102-37 decimation of Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Tuesday night at the Hutcherson Center.
 
The 13th ranked Flying Queens jumped all over the Aggies from the opening tip in this one, earning an early 11-2 lead after two quick buckets from Kaitlyn Jerden, and a coast-to-coast and-one from Linda Brice.
 
Freshman Brooklyn Hurtado put the Queens up 18-6 later in the first quarter after converting a tough and-one through contact. The Queens would hold an 18-8 lead over the Aggies at the end of the first quarter.
 
After two minutes of play in the second quarter, junior Megan Nestor asserted her dominance by finishing a hard-earned and-one to put the Queens up 25-11. Sophomore Bobbie Fouquet got in on the scoring action with a nice jumper off the feed from Brice to push the Queens advantage to 31-17 with just over four minutes until the halftime break.
 
The Queens closed the second quarter strong with another tough layup from Jerden followed by a Peyton North three-pointer just before the halftime buzzer sounded off, giving the Queens a 40-19 lead heading into the intermission.
 
The Aggies opened the second half with a quick bucket, but the Queens answered back immediately with another Nestor and-one, extending their lead to 43-21. Fouquet would later extend the Queens lead to 50-23 after scoring back-to-back buckets with Brice earning the assist on both plays.
 
The lead would continue to grow for the Flying Queens at the midway point of the third quarter when Sigala converted a beautiful up-and-under layup to make it 55-25, WBU. The Queens played with great pace throughout the third quarter and capped the frame off with an open Sigala three-pointer to make it 69-33 heading into the final quarter of play.
 
The Queens opened the final quarter by converting their first six shot attempts to extend their lead to an overpowering 81-35 with just over seven minutes left in the game. Brice would put the Queens up 52-points after finishing a difficult layup through traffic for an and-one, making it 87-35 with just over five minutes left in the game.
 
Sophomore Jadyn Trusler would put the Queens over the century mark after sinking an open three-pointer off the feed from North, making it 100-37. The Queens went on to defeat the Aggies 102-37 to remain unbeaten at 8-0 heading into the Thanksgiving break.
 
The Queen's defense was swarming tonight and only allowed four total points in the fourth quarter. For the game, the Queens outrebounded the Aggies 56-36, while shooting 53% from the floor and 91% from the free throw line.
 
Nestor finished with 17 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the floor, 10 rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Brice added 16 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Jerden totaled 12 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. Fouquet added 14 points, three assists, and a rebound. Sigala scored 13 points with a rebound and three assists. Hurtado added 14 points, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal in 15 minutes off the bench.
 
The Queens will return to the court after the Thanksgiving Break when they travel to Bethany, Oklahoma for a road Sooner Athletic Conference match up against the Eagles of Southwestern Christian University. Tip-off is scheduled for Thursday, December 5th at 6:00 PM.
