Pioneers Come Up One Point Short to RV Kansas Wesleyan

Plainview – The Pioneers lost a nail-biter, 71-70, to RV Kansas Wesleyan at the Hutcherson Center Saturday afternoon. Wayland trailed by as many as 8 points in the first half, but brought the score to 43-40 when the halftime buzzer sounded.

The Pioneers opened the second half on an 11-0 run to take an eight-point lead with 16:25 remaining. The game was tied 58-all at the 8:15 mark and there were three lead changes in the last seven minutes of the game. The Coyotes took a 4-point lead, 71-67, with 8 seconds to play. A three pointer by Quenton Coleman with 5 seconds left brought the Pioneers to within a single point. KWU missed a free throw attempt with 3 seconds left, but a desperation shot by Wayland was not good.

Niko Noumeros led the Pioneers in scoring with 17 points while also pulling down a team high 9 rebounds. Quenton Coleman and Adeola Seun each scored 13 points, and Seun added 4 rebounds. Also scoring for Wayland were Dylan McDougal with 7 points, Kabine Kaba with 6 points along with 6 rebounds.
