Pioneers Win on the Road Again; Top the Drovers to Remain Atop the SAC Standings

Chickasha, Oklahoma – Winning college basketball games is hard. Winning road games in college basketball is even harder. The Wayland Baptist Pioneers must embrace hard, because with their 79-70 win Saturday at USAO, they have won 4 consecutive road games. More importantly, the Pioneers head into the Christmas Break with an 8-1 conference record and are all alone at the top of the Sooner Athletic Conference standings.

In an unusual turn of events for SAC play, Wayland was in control for most of the game. The Drovers led only twice, 3-1 at the 18:07 mark of the first half and 7-6 with 16:23 left in the first half. The Pioneers took an 8-7 lead on a lay-up by Kabine Kaba with 15:59 left in the half, and never trailed again.

Wayland's largest lead was by 17 points with 11:02 remaining in the game. The Drovers pulled within 7 points with 3:19 left to play, but a Quenton Coleman lay-up quickly extended the lead to nine, 77-68, with 3:05 left and USAO never got any closer.

Kabine Kaba had a double-double off the bench for the Pioneers, with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Dylan McDougal scored 12 points and had 3 rebounds. Julian Perez had 11 points along with 4 assists and 2 rebounds.
