Queens Hold UNTD to 27 Points and Maintain 3rd place in SAC Heading into Regular Season Finale at SAGU

Dallas, Texas – Linda Brice, Bobbie Fouquet, and Megan Nestor combine for 58 points and the RV Flying Queens forced the University of North Texas at Dallas into 31 turnovers as they steamroll the Trailblazers by 56 points.

RV Wayland Baptist (21-6, 16-5 SAC) got out to an early 8-3 lead after Fouquet and Brice both knocked down 3-pointers. With the Queens holding a 12-10 lead and just over three minutes until the end of the first, Linda Brice converted 3 of her 10 free throw attempts to make it 15-10. The Queens wouldn't allow another point for the quarter, and they took a 15-10 lead into the second quarter.

The Flying Queens opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer by Fouquet and a layup by Brice to extend their lead to 20-12. With just over six minutes until the halftime break and the Queens up by 7, Nestor would get going with an and-one to make it 26-16.  Nestor's and-one would begin a 9-0 run for the Flying Queens that was capped off by a couple of layups and two Brice free throws, making the score 32-16. Ellie Bruffey knocked down a 3-pointer of the pass from Brice to give the Queens a 35-18 lead going into the half.

The second half began with a huge 14-2 run that featured 8 points from Nestor to give the Queens a 49-20 lead with just under five minutes left in the third quarter. After a quick 5-0 Trailblazer run, Brice knocked down another 3-pointer to make it 52-25. Brice would hit 3 more free throws in the final two minutes to help the Queens take a 55-27 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Queens held the Trailblazers scoreless the entire fourth quarter and outscored them overall, 28-0. Fouquet scored the first four points of the fourth for the Queens with the second bucket coming off an offensive rebound by Nestor. Nestor and Fouquet would combine for 12 of the first 14 points for the Queens to begin the final period. Taylor Houston would then go on a quick 4-0 run by herself to make it 73-27. With just under four minutes left in regulation, Fouquet knocked down another jumper to make it 77-27. The Queens went on to defeat UNTD by a score of 83-27.

The 27 points allowed tonight against UNTD was the fewest points allowed by the Queens this season – after only allowing 40 points last Saturday at Central Christian. The 31 turnovers forced was the second most turnovers forced in a game this year.

Head Coach Jason Cooper mentioned challenging his team at the halftime break, "We had a great effort in the 3rd quarter tonight to blow the game wide open. I challenged the girls at half to come out and play Queens basketball with great intensity. They responded and ended up holding UNTD to 9 points and followed by 0 in the 4th. I was definitely pleased with that effort."

Megan Nestor finished with 17 points, 19 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals, and shot 6-9 from the floor. Linda Brice went for 21 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals, and 10-14 from the free throw line. Bobbie Fouquet added 20 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.

The Flying Queens will close their regular season on Saturday with a road matchup at SAGU (15-11, 12-9 SAC). Tip is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday afternoon. This could be a preview of the Sooner Athletic Conference Quarterfinal matchup that is set to take place one week from tonight.
