Chickasha, Oklahoma – The Pioneer softball team dropped both games of the Friday doubleheader at the NAIA 6
th ranked team in the country, University of Science and Arts (Okla.) in their first Sooner Athletic Conference games in program history. The Pioneers couldn't scratch across any runs or hits in the first game and lost 11-0, and knocked in 2 runs in game two, but fell short 8-2.
Wayland Baptist had a tough time getting the bats going in game one and fell victim to a perfect game thrown by the Drovers' Sophie Williams. Only two Pioneers put the ball in play as
Arianna Zubia popped up to the pitcher, and
Berkley Bradley grounded out to shortstop.
Clarissa Rejino pitched 2 innings for the Pioneers – giving up 7 runs but only 2 earned runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Amber Poorbaugh threw 2 innings in relief, and she gave up 4 runs but only 3 earned, 5 hits, 3 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
Game two started with
Mikayla Carrillo knocking a single through the right side and advancing all the way to third base after a Drover error.
Jenna Sepeda was able to drive her in with a single up the middle to make it 1-0 Pioneers in the top of the 1
st. The Drovers answered with 2 runs in their half of the 1
st inning after hitting a two-run home run. USAO knocked in another run after an RBI single in the bottom of the 2
nd to make it 3-1. A solo home run by Eaton to lead off the bottom of the 3rd inning gave the Drovers a 4-1 lead through 3 innings. The Drovers took a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the 5
th inning after Eaton hit her 2
nd leadoff homer of the game. The Pioneers would respond in the top of the 6
th after Sepeda hit another single through the infield, and
Reagan Davis drove a double to left to score Sepeda from first. USAO struck for 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6
th inning, they shut down the Pioneer in the top of the 7
th to take game two, 8-2.
Addy Rich made the start in game two for the Pioneers- going 4 innings, allowing 5 runs, 9 hits, no walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Amber Poorbaugh pitched 2 innings in relief, allowing 3 runs but only 2 earned, 4 hits, no walks, and 1 strikeout.
Jenna Sepeda finished game two 2-3 with an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.
Reagan Davis went 1-3 with an RBI double.
Mikayla Carrillo went 1-3 with a run scored.
Amber Poorbaugh went 0-1 with 2 walks.
The Pioneers will wrap up their first Sooner Athletic Conference series in program history tomorrow afternoon with another doubleheader against 6
th ranked USAO awaits. First pitch for game one is set for 12:00 PM.
