Chickasha, Oklahoma – The Pioneers couldn't overcome a dominant USAO team as they fall in both games of the Saturday doubleheader. The 6
th ranked University of Science and Arts (Okla.) won game 1 10-0 and game 2 12-0.
Amber Poorbaugh got the start for the Pioneers in game one, and she finished with 2.2 innings pitched, 9 runs allowed but only 4 earned runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Addy Rich threw 1.1 innings in relief, allowing 1 run, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout.
After the Pioneers went down scoreless their first two innings at the plate, the Drovers responded with 4 runs on 3 Pioneer errors in the bottom of the 2
nd.
Berkley Bradley led off the top of the 3
rd for the Pioneers with a knock through the left side of the infield for a base hit, their only hit of the ballgame.
Jadyn Fernandez advanced Bradley by a groundout, and
Tiggy Rayos drew a walk to get two runners on and only one out. The Pioneers were unable to bring the runners around to score and remained down, 4-0. The Drovers got 5 runs across in the bottom of the 3
rd inning to make it 9-0, and one run scratched across in the bottom of the 4
th to make it 10-0. The Pioneers couldn't manufacture any offense after the top of the 3
rd and fell 10-0 in game one.
After a scoreless first inning in game two, Wayland Baptist got a runner into scoring position after
Berkley Bradley ripped a double to right field. Bradley was able to reach third after a groundout, but the Pioneers were unable to bring her in to score, and the game remained scoreless heading into the bottom of the 2
nd. The Drovers knocked in 3 runs in their half of the 2
nd inning after an RBI double and a 2 RBI single. The Drovers then made it 5-0 in the bottom of the 3
rd after an RBI triple and an RBI single. 6
th ranked USAO busted the game open in the bottom of the 4
th with 7 runs to make it 12-0. The Pioneers loaded the bases in the top of the 5
th inning, but they were unable to bring anyone in to score after an unfortunate lineout double play ended the game with a 12-0 final score.
Clarissa Rejino made the start for the Pioneers in game two – going 3 innings, allowing 8 runs and 7 of them earned, 6 hits, 4 walks, and a strikeout.
Addy Rich threw a scoreless inning in relief, allowing one hit, and striking out one batter.
Bradley went 1-2 with a double.
Jadyn Fernandez went 0-1 with a walk.
Aaleah Rodriguez went 0-1 with a walk and a stolen base.
Mikayla Shires also went 0-1 with a walk.
The Wayland Baptist Pioneers will return home for a Wednesday doubleheader against Dallas Christian College. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
