Plainview, Texas – The Pioneers celebrate another walk-off winner in game two as the Pioneers split the Saturday doubleheader against Adams State University to split the four-game weekend series.
Wayland Baptist (9-11) fell behind 1-0 in the top of the 1
st of game one after the Grizzlies scored on a wild pitch, but
Samuel Fabian hit a two-run moonshot to left field in the bottom of the 2nd to give the Pioneers a 2-1 lead. The Grizzlies offensive exploded in the top of the 3
rd for a 6-run inning capped off by a 3-run home run. The Pioneers got one back in the bottom of the 3
rd after
Delvis Claudio grounded out to shortstop to bring a run home.
Hayden Ingram drove a fly ball to right field that the Grizzlies right fielder couldn't control allowing two runs to score to make it a 7-4 ballgame.
Jan Rollon Jr. then smacked an infield single to score another run for the Pioneers to make it 7-5 after 4 innings of play.
After a couple scoreless innings,
Gustavo Nava drove a double to the gap to give the Pioneers a runner in scoring position.
Cooper Jauz then drove a single to center to make it a 7-6 ballgame. With the game tied at 7 and headed to extra innings, the Grizzlies scored 5 runs in the top of the 8
th to take a 12-7 lead.
Samuel Fabian homered for the Pioneers in the bottom of the 8
th, and
Hayden Ingram singled a runner in to make it 12-9. The Pioneers were unable to bring anymore runners across to score and fell short in game one, 12-9.
In game one, Fabian went 2-4 with two home runs and 3 RBIs. Ingram went 2-4 with 3 RBIs and a run scored.
Brayden Peyton went 2-4 with two runs scored.
Jan Rollon Jr. went 2-5 with an RBI.
Cooper Jauz went 1-2 with an RBI, a walk, and a run scored.
Arcadio Frausto went 2-4 with a double and a run scored.
Wellington Vargas made the game one start for the Pioneers – tossing 2.1 innings, allowing 6 runs, 4 hits, 2 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
Nathan Baca was solid in relief during game one – going 4.1 innings, allowing 1 run, 3 hits, 4 walks, and 5 strikeouts.
Wayland Baptist fell behind 3-0 in the first inning of game two after the Grizzlies hit a 3-run home run. The Pioneers responded in the bottom of the 1
st after Frausto ripped a single into left to score the runner from second to make it 3-1. The Grizzlies hit a solo homer in the top of the 2
nd to take a 4-1 lead. Ingram came to the plate for the Pioneers in the bottom of the 2
nd, and he drove a bases loaded sacrifice fly to center field – scoring a run and making it 4-2. Rollon Jr. rolled a grounder to first base for the unassisted out, but a runner came in to score from third to make it 4-3 after 2 innings of play. The Grizzlies hit their third home run of game two with the third one being a two-run shot to extend their lead to 6-3. Frausto came to the plate for the Pioneers in the 3
rd inning and drove an RBI double to center to score a run. Jauz then drove a 2 run single to left to tie the game for the Pioneers.
After the Grizzlies took a two-run lead in the 4
th inning, the Pioneers got a run back when Frausto hit an RBI groundout to first base. Jauz tied the game once again in the 5
th inning with another RBI single to right, and Rollon Jr. gave the Pioneers the lead with an RBI single to left. The Pioneers then scored the go-ahead run on a bases loaded wild pitch. Adams State tied the game in the top of the 7
th after scoring a runner from third place on a wild pitch. In the bottom of the 7th, the Pioneers got a leadoff man on with a walk.
Riley Watson then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error after coming into the game as a pinch runner. With
Jan Rollon Jr. at the plate and the winning run standing on third, Rollon Jr. dropped down a squeeze bunt while the runner was breaking for home to walk off the Grizzlies by a score of 11-10. This is the second night in a row the Pioneers have split the doubleheader by walking it off in game two.

Arcadio Frausto went 2-4 with a double, 3 RBIs, and a run scored. Jauz went 2-2 with 3 RBIs, 2 walks, and a run scored.
Gustavo Nava went 2-2 with 2 runs scored, a hit by pitch, and a stolen base.
Branin Seibert got the start in game two for the Pioneers – throwing 3.2 innings, allowing 9 runs, 8 hits, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.
Tate House went 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, no walks, and 3 strikeouts.
Felix Polanco got the win, and he pitched 2 innings, allowing an unearned run, 3 hits, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout.
The Pioneers kick off Sooner Athletic Conference play next weekend with a 3-game home series against Central Christian College (Kan.). They will play a doubleheader on Friday with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 2:00 PM on Friday.
