Pioneers Drop Opening Day Doubleheader Against Oklahoma Wesleyan in First Official Games

Plainview, Texas – The Pioneers softball team dropped both games of the Friday doubleheader against Oklahoma Wesleyan, but they celebrate a historic weekend as the team is competing in their first ever official season as a program. The Pioneers lost game 1 by a score of 7-5 after a rain delay that lasted just over an hour long, and they lost the second game 15-1 after going final at the conclusion of the 5th inning.

The Pioneers fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning after the leadoff hitter reached base after an error, and she was able to cross home after an RBI double. The Pioneers responded immediately with 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. Brooklyn Araujo came to the plate with runners on first and second, and she drove a double to right field to score both runners. Araujo would come around to score on two wild pitches to make the score 3-1 Pioneers. OKWU answered with a 5-run top of the 2nd inning that included 2 home runs including a 3-run homer. The Pioneers scratched across one run in the bottom of the 2nd after Abcde Garcia singled to right to score Arianna Zubia, making the score 6-4. After rain paused the game for a little over an hour, the Pioneers came back from the delay with Reagan Davis scoring on a wild pitch to shrink the Eagles lead to 6-5. The Eagles got another run across in the top of the 5th inning to take a 7-5 lead which would end up being the final score.
